3 dead, including suspect, in shooting involving officers at marina in Mt. Juliet

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Mt. Juliet Police Department reports that a second victim in the Friday night shooting at the Cedar Creek Marina has died.

Two victims and the suspected shooter are dead following the incident at the marina on Saundersville Road late Friday evening.

Officers responded to the area at about 9:30 p.m. to reports of a suspect threatening people on the dock. As officers searched the area, gunfire rang out.

Officers found a gunshot victim, moved him to safety and continued to investigate the area. Officers then believed the gunman was inside a boat near the end of C-Dock, the department’s Special Response Team was deployed.

Police said the search was complicated due to the frigid temperatures, ice-covered water and unique layout of the marina.

“During the incident, the suspect fired at officers. Five Mt. Juliet Police officers returned fire. The suspect was later located deceased. A second adult male gunshot victim was also found deceased. No officers were injured,” MJPD said.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is now investigating the shooting.

“Mt. Juliet Police were supported during the response by the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Homeland Security, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Rehab 23. Their assistance was vital in managing the complex and dangerous situation,” MJPD said.
