Evacuations urged after chemical spill near Trousdale, Macon County line
Highway 141 and Pleasant Valley Road were shut down on Tuesday afternoon and remain closed Wednesday.
HARTSVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Residents near the Macon and Trousdale county line are asked to evacuate following a tanker crash that resulted in an active chemical spill, according to local authorities.
The rollover crash was first reported Tuesday afternoon, and the scene is expected to remain active through 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Macon County Sheriff’s Office reported that a driver of a tractor-trailer lost control and rolled over near Green Grove Road and Highway 141 at about 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department reported that residents within a half mile of the crash are requested to evacuate as they continue “working to manage an active chemical tanker spill.”
“Please stay away from the area as Emergency Management and First Responders mitigate the scene,” TCSO said.
Green Grove Road was shut down for the crash, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation later reported that nearby Pleasant Valley Road was also closed while cleanup crews worked to remove the wreckage.
The sheriff’s office recommended that drivers seek alternate routes until the area reopens.
TDOT estimates both roads will reopen at about 4 p.m.
