Maury County breaks ground on community’s first tornado siren

This comes months after four tornadoes were confirmed in Middle Tennessee, two of which hit Maury County.

COLUMBIA, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Maury County Office of Emergency Management announced the addition of a tornado siren for the community.

The county’s OEM reports that the addition of this siren comes after months of discussion, planning and coordination.

“BUT WAIT, before you shut off your weather radio, please remember this key information,” the OEM said. “Tornado sirens are and have always been intended for outdoor use ONLY!”

    • EF-2 120 mph winds
    • 400 yards wide
    • 5.10 miles long
  • Mt. Pleasant (Maury County)
    • EF-1 100 mph winds
    • 300 yards wide
    • 4.10 miles long
