Meharry is hosting the free day as it says Tennessee ranks among the worst states for oral health outcomes. According to a 2024 report by the United Health Foundation, Tennessee is ranked No. 43 in the U.S. for health, trailed only by Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, West Virginia, Louisiana and Mississippi. Those rankings are based on social and economic factors, physical environment, behaviors, clinical care and health outcomes.

At Saturday’s event, the dean and assistant dean of Meharry’s School of Dentistry will also be on-site to discuss the impact of free dental care.
