LEBANON, Tenn. (WSMV) - A woman was charged with animal cruelty after a dead dog was found in an outdoor kennel in the backyard of her home, according to the Lebanon Police Department.

On Sunday night, officers with the Lebanon Police Department (LPD) responded to Cainsville Road regarding the dead dog.

When officers arrived, they found the animal and four other dogs in the backyard.

Police said that due to the circumstances, LPD’s animal control division was requested to respond to the scene.

During the preliminary investigation, LPD said it is believed the dog died due to the freezing temperatures.

Officers and animal control personnel also found that the other dogs had no food or heat source available and the water they had was frozen.

Angela Hall, 66, was arrested and charged with five counts of animal cruelty.

The four surviving dogs were taken into LPD’s animal control division’s custody, and police said animal control officers have begun to assess the dogs’ health and behavior.

“With time, we are hopeful these dogs may be placed into loving, permanent homes,” LPD said. “This is a reminder of why it’s so important to remember your outdoor pets during the extremely cold temperatures we’ve experienced over the past several days.”
