NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Clean-up efforts are continuing across the Midstate, including a neighborhood in Nashville that saw significant damage from this weekend’s winter storm.

WSMV crews found massive downed trees, power lines and poles littering Granny White Pike near Travelers Ridge Drive in Forest Hills Wednesday.

The National Guard responded to Granny White Pike Thursday to assist in clean-up efforts, bringing in heavy equipment and chainsaws to remove debris.

A clean-up team from Georgia also went out to Forest Hills Thursday and told us they came up to help with recovery efforts in the area. They said they are moving as quickly as they can to get roads clear of debris and wires.

However, safety comes first.

“The other big thing is that a big hazard is the power lines that are still down. They’re hanging up on trucks, they’re hanging up on equipment, and if you’re standing up in the back of a truck or something or like that and go by it, can do some damage,” said John Thomas with All Services of Atlanta.

“Recognize your pressure points cause these trees and then these trees don’t hinge, they just snap. So, cutting them isn’t the same as cutting another tree.”

Thomas said he has responded to many natural disasters, and this is one of the worst he’s ever seen.
