NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor is making his debut at the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is set to perform Tuesday night on the iconic circle for the first time, although it is far from the first time his songs have reached country music fans. The show starts at 7 p.m.

“Longtime Opry legend George Hamilton IV is credited as the first country artist to champion the songs of James Taylor, recording covers of ‘Carolina in My Mind’ in 1969 and ‘Sweet Baby James’ in 1971, helping introduce Taylor’s music to country audiences,” an Opry press release said.

Taylor will perform Tuesday night alongside Opry member friends Gill and Emmylou Harris, according to the press release. The show will also feature Scotty Hasting, Jamey Johnson, Craig Morgan, and Gary Sinise and the Lieutenant Dan Band.

“As a recording and touring artist, James Taylor has touched people with his warm baritone voice and distinctive style of guitar-playing for more than 50 years, while setting a precedent to which countless young musicians have aspired,” the press release said.

The celebrated songwriter and performer is also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Folk Americana Roots Hall of Fame. His music has gone gold, platinum, and multi-platinum, and during his career, Taylor has sold more than 100 million albums.

He’s received distinguished honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the National Medal of Arts, and Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters, the Opry reported.
