Bill to rename Nashville airport for Pres. Trump back in TN legislature
The bill is up for discussion after receiving a negative recommendation from the Naming Committee on Monday.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A bill that’s aiming to rename the Nashville International Airport for Pres. Donald Trump is back in the Tennessee legislature after it was removed from consideration in late February.
On March 5, HB 0217, was placed on the calendar to be discussed on Monday, March 10 in the Naming & Designating Committee.
During the House committee meeting, four representatives voted in favor of the bill, including its sponsor, Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill) with six voting against it. It’s now set to move onto the Transportation Committee with a negative recommendation.

On Feb. 19, the bill passed on second consideration and was referred to the Senate Transportation and Safety Committee.
Earlier, Republican lawmakers appeared to be at odds on the idea of renaming BNA after President Donald Trump. On Jan. 16, Senator Todd Gardenhire (R-Chattanooga) introduced SB0214, which would prohibit any public facility from being named after a sitting public official until two years after that person left office.
The bill also stipulates that a public facility cannot carry the namesake of any public official who has been convicted of a felony, or a morally depraved crime.
The day after SB0214 was filed, Rep. Todd Warner (R-Chapel Hill) filed HB0217, which proposes renaming BNA to Trump International Airport, after Pres. Donald Trump. Senator Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald) filed the Senate version of the bill, SB0265, a week later.
In late January, in the early days of the bill’s life, the Nashville International Airport said it’s focused on providing “exceptional travel experiences for our community and our passengers.”
