2 indicted after 10-year-old killed in jet ski crash on Old Hickory Lake
The duo were indicted on four identical charges including vehicular homicide by recklessness.

LEBANON, Tenn. (WSMV) - Two people are now facing charges in connection to a summer 2024 jet ski crash on Old Hickory Lake that killed a 10-year-old boy, according to court documents.
According to two Wilson County grand jury indictments, Joshua Kennington and Savannah Remington are both facing four charges in connection to the July 16, 2024 death of fourth-grader Jack Gear.
Remington and Kennington are facing the following charges:
- Vehicular homicide by recklessness
- Safe speed
- Risk of collision
- Head-on situation
A grand jury indicted the duo on Feb. 12, according to the documents. Both Kennington and Remington have since been released on $5,000 bonds.

On the day of the crash, the Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency said that two personal watercraft (PWC) collided on Old Hickory Lake near the Boxwell Reservation, which is a campground for the Boy Scouts. One was driven by a 19-year-old female staff member from Boxwell, with 10-year-old Jack riding as her passenger. They crashed into the other PWC, also with a campground staffer operating with a juvenile passenger aboard.
Both the 19-year-old girl and Jack were seriously injured and taken to separate hospitals. The girl was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, and Jack was transported to Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital where he later died, the TWRA reported.
In September 2024, the Gear’s parents sued the Middle Tennessee Council for the Boy Scouts of America for $10 million. According to the lawsuit, on July 16, 2024, Jack Gear was riding a Jet-Ski owned and operated by a person with the Boy Scouts of America.
The other jet ski involved was owned and operated by another person with the Boy Scouts of America. The lawsuit claims that the jet ski was going at a high rate of speed.
According to the suit, Gear’s parents believe his injuries and wrongful death were caused by negligence and reckless conduct by employees, agents, and representatives of the Middle Tennessee Council, Boy Scouts of America.
