NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Two calls were made to 911 about a party on Jefferson Street before a shooting there Saturday night that sent four teens to the hospital.

A total of 26 calls were made to 911 before and after the shooting.

Calls before the shooting

A 911 call logged at 12:08 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, came from a mother who had picked up her daughter from what turned out to be an unauthorized party on Jefferson Street. The caller told the dispatcher she had called earlier and did not think anyone had been sent.

“I just need you all to send somebody out for safety of these children. They’re underage children. There’s a party on Jefferson Street,” the caller said.

She said she had seen an officer speak with people at the location earlier. “Well, they need to come back because it’s worse now,” she said in the call.

The caller described what she could see from her vehicle. She said teenagers with backpacks were walking in the street and cars were driving up and down the street with people hanging out of the windows. She also described a person riding a dirt bike on one wheel.

“There’s at least probably about 200 kids out here, unsupervised, underage,” the caller said.

She also told the dispatcher about weapons.

“God knows where they’re getting these weapons from. But they’re walking around with them physically showing, visibly,” the caller said.

The dispatcher asked if she meant firearms. The caller said yes. She said the person she saw with a gun was on foot, walking with several other people.

“Nobody calls in and tells what they see... and then something happens, and then everybody’s going to start calling. And I’m trying to prevent it,” the caller said.

The caller gave the location as the Jefferson Street and 28th intersection, the same place an officer had gone earlier. The dispatcher repeated the address as 2622 Jefferson Street and said an officer would be sent back.

Nearly 20 minutes later, a second call was made to 911. In that call, the exchange included, “So, you said it’s loud music and underage drinking?” and “Yes, sir.”

Calls reporting gunfire

Three minutes later, calls flooded into 911.

A call logged at 12:24 a.m. reported an automatic weapon on Jefferson Street. The caller said two people were shooting in front of a club.

“It’s a club with a whole bunch of people, and there was gunfire everywhere,” the caller said.

At 12:27 a.m., a caller reported a shooting at 28th and Jefferson, near the Marathon gas station. The caller said people were running from the area screaming and that shots were heard. The dispatcher said the center had started getting many calls about it.

A call logged at 12:28 a.m. reported multiple gunshots and possible injuries.

“Multiple gunshots, maybe 30 gunshots,” the caller said.

The caller said he pulled off the road and got low because of the gunfire. He told the dispatcher he did not see who was shooting.

Another caller described gunfire near the same location.

“I’ve never heard so many shots coming. Like, they were firing back and everything,” the caller said.

That caller said it looked like a block party or Halloween party. He said someone hit a pole as he pulled off, and that people were running and leaving.

Another call logged at 12:28 a.m. said people were being shot at a Halloween party. The dispatcher told that caller responders were already on the way.

Calls for help for the victims

Seconds later, callers asked for immediate help for the people who were shot.

“There’s a girl, she has a gunshot with her head,” one caller said.

The caller said the shooting happened at House of Legends on Jefferson Street. The dispatcher said officers and paramedics were on the way and asked if anyone had a clean, dry cloth or towel to control the bleeding.

A caller said people were pressing on the girl’s head and that she was breathing. The caller said an ambulance was needed immediately.

When the dispatcher asked if officers were there, a caller said three had just pulled up but an ambulance was still needed. The dispatcher said an ambulance was also on the way.

A caller later said CPR was being done.

“I’m doing CPR on it right now... Come on, baby girl. Come on,” a caller said.

The dispatcher asked where the girl was. A caller said people were outside House of Legends.

At about 12:30 a.m., a caller said a friend had been shot near a church. The caller said the friend was shot above the hip and in the left arm, below the elbow.

The dispatcher told the caller to apply pressure to the wounds with a cotton cloth or jacket. The dispatcher also asked the caller to flag down officers.

“I’m saying he’s losing consciousness... He’s probably like 15, 14. I don’t know... 16,” the caller said when the dispatcher asked the friend’s age.

The dispatcher said multiple ambulances were on the way. When asked how many people were shot, the caller said there were multiple victims.

Investigation

The four teens were taken to the hospital. At last check, the girl shot in the head remained in critical condition.

Police said they are still looking into the shooting. They have not arrested anyone or named a suspect.

WSMV asked police about the calls made prior to the shooting. Metro Nashville Police responded with a statement:

“There was a call at 9:45 pm. The caller wanted no contact with police ‘No talk.’ Two North Precinct officers drove by the area and all were inside the enclosure in the parking lot. They did not see anyone running across the street. Another call was received just minutes before the shots were fired. TSU officers in the area responded along with MNPD.”

The owner of the property said he was unaware the party was taking place.

There is no word on whether charges will be filed against those responsible for putting on the party.
