First Alert Weather Day: Drenching downpours to disrupt Wednesday morning commute
Minor flooding is possible in poor drainage areas.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Be prepared for impacts to your Wednesday morning commute in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY - WEDNESDAY MORNING
Widespread soaking rain will move into Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky late Tuesday and through Wednesday morning, bringing disruptions to our morning commute.
Drenching downpours will make for a longer-than-average commute for many across the Midstate. We are expecting some rumbles of thunder, but no severe weather is expected at this time.
We’ll see a few scattered rain showers develop Tuesday evening across the Midstate, but the main line of rain will reach the Tennessee River around 10 p.m. Heavy rain will arrive in Nashville around 1 a.m. and then expand eastward through the overnight and affect much of the Midstate.
Heavy downpours could easily cause ponding on roadways and even some very brief flooding in low-lying, poorly drained areas. Count on the commute taking longer than normal, so leave your house extra early so you’re not in a hurry.
Rain will taper off by mid-morning in West Middle Tennessee but not until the start of the afternoon out in the Plateau.
1-2″ of rain will fall across most of the Midstate Tuesday night through Wednesday, with some isolated locations receiving up to 3″.
