Construction worker hit by truck after driver ignored flagger, official says

OUTAGAMIE COUNTY, Wis. (WBAY/Gray News) — A construction worker was struck by a truck Wednesday, according to Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson.

Nelson said the driver ignored the worker directing traffic. The worker was hit by the side-view mirror.

The driver reportedly did not stop after hitting the worker but instead made a rude gesture while driving away.

Another worker at the scene got the license plate number. Nelson said the driver will be dealt with legally.

The worker is expected to be OK to return to work on Friday.

Nelson also addressed driver behavior around construction zones.

“It’s really out there. People are fried, short-tempered and cranky. But please, let’s not take it out on each other. Especially those just doing their job. We can do better,” Nelson wrote.
