NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Metro Nashville Public Schools reports that its Evolv weapons detection systems have been installed in all high schools and middle schools as of May 14, 2026.

Installation of the systems for the district began in 2025 following the deadly shooting at Antioch High School.

At least six guns have been detected by the scanners since they were rolled out by MNPS.

Middle school installations began in October 2025.

Previously, MNPS spokesperson Sean Braisted said their system includes school resource officers (SROs), AI camera monitoring software and building relationships with students and their families.

“We’ve never said that this is a perfect solution. It is one of many different solutions,” Braisted said. “What we really want to make sure is that there’s an open line of dialogue. It comes down to parents knowing what their kids are bringing to school on a daily basis and having those great parent-to-student relationships.”

As of mid-July, there are no proposed changes for elementary schools regarding this initiative. The district reports that Metro Nashville Police are expanding the SRO program to more elementary schools “as staffing allows.”

Community officer patrols will continue helping cover schools without resource officers, the district noted, adding that the mayor included additional funding in his proposed budget “to sustain that work.”
