TCAP testing begins in Middle Tennessee: A reminder on what to know
The purpose of TCAP testing is to “assess true student understanding and not just basic memorization and test-taking skills.”
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Several Middle Tennessee school districts have begun their Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program (TCAP) testing.
According to the Tennessee Department of Education, TCAP Achievement testing for grades 3-5 is from April 13 through May 6, and TCAP EOC for grades 6-8 is from April 13 through May 8.
Each subject area, English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies, is tested and required.
The purpose of TCAP testing is to “assess true student understanding and not just basic memorization and test-taking skills.”
Williamson County Schools and Wilson County Schools are just some of the Middle Tennessee schools that began testing this week.
Williamson County Schools said each school will “establish a testing schedule.”
The TCAP spring testing window opened Monday, April 13, in Williamson County Schools and will close on May 6.
TCAP testing plays a part in promotion decisions for some third-grade students under Tennessee’s 2022 Learning Loss Remediation and Student Acceleration Act.
The law requires that third-grade students who don’t score “met expectations” or “exceeded expectations” on the ELA section may be required to attend Summer Learning Camp to advance to the next grade.
Students who score “below expectations” or “approaching expectations” will have an opportunity to retake the ELA test during the last week of school.
If a third-grade student needs to retake the TCAP test, parents or guardians will be notified in advance.
