Middle Tennessee city says it’s collecting 5 times the normal amount of storm debris every week in wake of January ice storm
“That’s nearly 58% of a full year’s total in just five weeks!” the city said.
FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) - One Middle Tennessee city says its crews continue to collect five times the normal amount of debris every week following January’s ice storm.
“Franklin’s Sanitation and Environmental Services team is working through an enormous amount of storm debris across the city,” Franklin officials wrote on Facebook on Tuesday. “...269 tons of brush collected each week right now. A typical week is about 54 tons. That’s 5 times the normal volume!”
Every year, the city says it collects about 2,800 tons of brush. But since January 28, crews have already collected 1,616 tons, more than half that amount.
“That’s nearly 58% of a full year’s total in just five weeks!” the city said.
So far, three Franklin neighborhoods are caught up in their debris cleanup: Westhaven, McKay’s Mill and Fieldstone Farms. The city said it’s focusing resources in one neighborhood at a time to be as efficient as possible.
