NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Some residents in The Nations are calling for a member of the Metro Council to be removed from office.

A petition was filed by the Voices of District 20 to recall Councilman Rollin Horton.

Horton sponsored a rezoning plan for The Nations that he says will allow for growth in the area. However, the petitioners argue that homes will be torn down and families will be evicted.

They also claimed that Horton didn’t speak with the community or answer their questions before pushing through the plan.

Horton released the following statement in response to the petition:

“Nashville is in a housing crisis. I ran for Council to address this issue. I was elected with 74% of the vote to enact policies to make Nashville more affordable. I remain humbled by constituent support. The woman who filed the petition is immune to our housing issue because she—and good for her—lives in a home owned by her parents. The Nations neighborhood plan is a good step in furtherance of the goal, especially for those of us who don’t enjoy the luxuries in life like Ms. Magli."

The rezoning plan allows for up to 40 housing units per acre, introducing sweeping changes to current zoning laws. The measure includes provisions for improved infrastructure, restoration of tree cover, and more flexible use of private property.
