NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT) has proposed adding a rideshare zone for people heading to downtown Nashville’s Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC).

NDOT’s proposal was discussed during a meeting with the Metro Nashville Traffic and Parking Commission in mid-January.

The proposed zone would limit where rideshare and taxi companies can pick up and drop off TPAC patrons during certain hours.

A pilot program is set to begin near the end of January, in connection with TPAC. The idea is to alleviate traffic issues caused by rideshare drivers dropping off or picking up passengers with minimal restrictions.

During the pilot program, loading and unloading zones will be placed in front of TPAC.

The program might also include a form of geo-fencing. It’s slated to go from Jan. 28 through Feb. 23.
