Morgan Wallen sentenced after guilty plea in chair-throwing case
The country music star’s felony charges were reduced to misdemeanors under a plea deal.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year, Morgan Wallen, has reached a plea deal for throwing a chair off the top of a Broadway bar in early April.
Wallen pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment on Thursday. Under the plea deal, he is set to serve seven days at an alcohol rehab center and then will be on probation for the rest of his two-year sentence.
This was the first time Wallen appeared in court to face charges from his April 7 arrest. The 31-year-old singer was arrested after he was seen throwing a chair from the top of Eric Church’s bar, Chief’s. It was the bar’s opening weekend.
The chair landed six stories below just a few feet away from two officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department, who were on foot patrol that night along Broadway.

Wallen showed little emotion in the courtroom while the prosecution described his actions. He did not talk during the hearing other than short, simple answers to the judge’s questions.
Wallen and his attorney, Worrick Robinson, did not respond to WSMV’s questions about the dangers of the musician’s actions as they walked into the courtroom on Thursday.
At the time of his initial arrest, Wallen was charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment. On Thursday, he pled guilty to two misdemeanor charges.
Upon completion of his sentence, and if he fulfills all of the requirements in the plea deal, he will have his record cleared. Wallen also has to pay a $350 fine and court costs.
“Mr. Wallen has cooperated fully with authorities throughout these last eight months, directly communicating and apologizing to all involved,” Robinson said in a statement after the hearing. “Mr. Wallen remains committed to making a positive impact through his music and foundation.”
Wallen was quickly escorted out of the courthouse on Thursday afternoon by sheriff’s deputies and his security detail. It’s not clear when he will report to serve his time at the DUI education center.
