NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Millions of Music City visitors travel through Nashville International Airport every year. Now, those without a ticket can get a chance to meet a loved one at a gate, visit the airport’s restaurants and shop at its stores.

BNA, in cooperation with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), has launched BNA PASSport, a new offering for non-ticketed guests to access dining and retail at the airport beyond the designated security checkpoints.

Starting Monday, visitors can “explore various activities at BNA that not only include shopping and dining but also plane-watching, art exhibits, and the opportunity to meet a loved one at the gate,” BNA said in a media release.

For the Nilson family, they said they would’ve used a program like this last month when their daughter when flying home from Europe on a school trip.

“That would have been a good way to use this. Go pick her up at the gate. And I know he’s going to Europe too. So that would be probably beneficial,” Rebecca Nilson said.

Both ticket and nonticket holders are required to go through TSA security and have their bags scanned.

“I feel like when I was growing up we didn’t need a ticket to get through so I don’t feel as threatened by it, but there’s always a chance for someone bad to get through,” Nilson said.

Not everyone we spoke with said they’d use the program. Some thought parking would be a hassle.

“I would have to park my car and come in and go through there and pick someone up and all that. I would rather just pull up and have him get in and head out,” Morgan Primeaux said.

BNA said at high volume times they may halt the PASSport program.

“As we continue to build a world-class airport, this new program opens the door for everyone, not just travelers, to experience BNA like a local,” said Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of BNA. “Our restaurants and shops capture the essence of Nashville, and BNA PASSport creates an exciting way to explore them. Grab a bite, browse the shops, and experience Music City, all under one roof.”

Only 75 PASSports are available each day, but they are available from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week. All guests are subject to the same TSA security requirements and regulations.

All guests must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by an adult.
