(CNN) - The U.S. Treasury has begun minting $1 gold coins featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said.

Federal law prohibits U.S. currency from featuring living people.

The Treasury said it worked around that restriction by classifying the coins as collectibles that commemorate America’s 250th birthday.

No announcement has been made regarding the price or availability of the coins.
