Braves’ stars on display in 2026 MLB All-Star Game
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - The Atlanta Braves’ stars were on display Tuesday in Philadelphia for the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, where the American League beat the National League 4-0.
The Braves had five players selected to the Midsummer Classic: second baseman Ozzie Albies, catcher Drake Baldwin, closer Raisel Iglesias, first baseman Matt Olson and left-hander Chris Sale.
Baldwin and Albies started for the National League, combining to go hitless in three at-bats.
Facing Kansas City Royals right-hander Michael Wacha, Baldwin, who made his first All-Star appearance, struck out looking on three pitches. He caught the first three innings for the NL before Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras replaced him in the fourth inning.
Albies grounded out in both of his at-bats before Giants infielder Luis Arraez replaced him in the sixth inning.
Iglesias, making his first All-Star appearance at 36, pitched the sixth inning and retired Tigers rookie Kevin McGonigle and Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger, who was named All-Star Game MVP, before allowing a single to Red Sox first baseman Willson Contreras. The veteran closer then got Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena to ground out to end the inning.
Olson took his first at-bat against Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen in the seventh inning and flied out to left field. In the ninth, Olson popped out against Red Sox closer Aroldis Chapman. Despite going 0-for-2, the 32-year-old Parkview High School graduate entered the break hitting .267 with 25 homers and 58 RBIs.
Sale did not pitch despite announcing his availability before the game.
Atlanta opens the second half of its regular season Friday at home against the Texas Rangers with a two-game lead in the NL East.
