‘Crazy’: Driver seen getting out of car to punch construction worker in the face

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (WSOC) – A driver was caught on camera getting out of his car to punch a construction worker in the face.

The altercation happened Tuesday in Huntersville, North Carolina.

The worker, Caleb Johnson, said he was waving his stop sign to get the car to stop at a work zone along Hambright Road.

The driver stopped – but then he got out of the car, approached Johnson, and hit him in the face.

Johnson said he was shocked.

“I think it was crazy,” he said. “I think the scariest part was he talked to me. He was very non-threatening, non-aggressive. So, I think it’s really scary that despite being in that much control, the fact he was still willing to hit someone.”

Johnson said other construction workers then blocked the car with road barrels, but the driver put the car in reverse and left.

The workers did get a license plate number, and the driver has since been identified. His name was not publicly released.

Johnson said he’s still left wondering why he was punched.

“I would really just wonder why,” he said. “What did he think would be a positive outcome from that situation?”

Both Johnson and the construction company are planning to press charges against the driver.
