Train collides with semitruck, splitting trailer carrying grain in half
SLEEPY EYE, Minn. (KTTC/Gray News) – A collision between a semitruck and a train at a railroad crossing in Minnesota Friday resulted in the truck’s trailer being ripped in two.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office said the crash took place on Highway 14 east of Sleepy Eye.
Deputies arrived at the crash site around 2:15 p.m. Friday where they determined a 1996 IH Semi with a Wilson trailer had attempted to turn north toward a business when it was struck by a train managed by the Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad.

A 24-year-old was driving the semi with a 56-year-old and a 57-year-old was operating the train.
Officials did not report any major injuries. However, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office said minor injuries were treated on the scene for all three involved.
The Wilson trailer was a total loss while the train sustained some damage.
The sheriff’s office said it wanted to remind people of the following to avoid collisions with trains:
- SLOW DOWN when approaching a railroad crossing
- STOP and LISTEN at the railroad crossing
- STAY BACK when necessary
- Have patience
- Look BOTH WAYS before crossing
- DO NOT step on tracks
- NEVER DRIVE UNDER or around the gates or past the lights when flashing
- WAIT until the gates are completely raised and the lights have stopped before continuing
