Man dead, officer injured after shooting, TBI says
Officers were responding to a domestic incident when gunfire erupted after the man followed the woman out of the home, the TBI said.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a man dead and an officer injured.
On Friday night, officers with the Lexington Police Department (LPD) were called to a home in the 700 block of Natchez Trace Drive. Officers were responding to a domestic incident, the TBI said.
When officers arrived, a woman left the home followed by a man when all of a sudden, officials said, gunfire erupted between the suspect, 40-year-old Robert Tate, and law enforcement.
Tate went back into the home where officers later found him dead, TBI said.
According to the TBI, an officer with the LPD was also struck by gunfire. The TBI said the officer was treated at a local hospital and released.
“TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events in the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews,” the TBI said. “Throughout the process, investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration.”
