One year later: Family remembers victim in deadly Madison hit-and-run
Darrell Miller, Sr. was driving to his mother’s house when he was hit and killed near Gallatin Pike and Walton Lane.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) -A family is demanding answers as they mark one year since their father was hit and killed in a crash in Madison.
Darrell Miller, Sr., was driving to his mother’s house when he was hit and killed near Gallatin Pike and Walton Lane in January 2024.
Police say Miller was making a left turn when a Chevy Cruze driver ran a red light and crashed into him. The suspect then took off running.
“Just do the right thing. Come forward. You’ve already been forgiven by me,” said Darrell Miller, Jr., the victim’s son.
MNPD said the suspect is a younger Hispanic male who had a possible bowl cut hairstyle at the time of the crash.
“I just want a chapter of my life closed, so that I can move forward with my life as well,” Miller said.
Wednesday, he stood in the same spot where he says his father took his last breath.
“It’s just a hard hit for all of us. Things like this happen to people. You hear about it, but for it to happen to you, it’s frustrating, it’s hard to cope with.”
Miller says its hard being in that area. So, he now takes a longer route to get to his grandmother’s house, who lives just two blocks away from where her son died. That’s where Miller, Sr. was headed before the crash.
“Just doing what he normally always does. Take care of his mother and just get her something to eat,” he said.
Now, Miller is focused on making sure his grandmother is okay along with keeping his father’s memory alive.
“They say I’m his twin. I always see my father when I look in the mirror,” Miller said.
He says he’s leaning into his memories while police continue to investigate.
“My father actually texted me that day, just telling me how proud he was and how he loved me,” Miller said.
Miller went on to say his father was a great person in his community and a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Miller, Sr. also leaves behind a daughter, Tiffany, and a granddaughter, Nyla.
Police said their investigation is ongoing.
