NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new project is taking off at Nashville’s airport.

Every weekday — until the end of the year — the airport says blasting operations will stop traffic on Donelson Pike, Airport Service Road and Terminal Drive at 1 p.m. as weather permits.

Some drivers are concerned that it will worsen traffic in the area. Terrell Horton, who frequently uses Donelson Pike, finds the increasing traffic annoying while working there.

”I have noticed in the last two years just an increase in traffic specifically heading towards the airport area,” he said.

The airport said the blasts will only impact traffic for about ten minutes daily. For some, that’s during lunch hours.

“Gabbing lunch is kind of an issue as well just because of the traffic in and out of the area,” he said.

Another driver who taxis back and forth to the airport all day said he doesn’t feel the same sting from traffic.

”We get a lot of changes around the airport that help us,” he said. He believes once the project is finished it will be better for him.

The blasting is part of a project to extend Concourse D and other terminal road improvements.

It won’t impact getting to the airport terminal from Interstate 40, but if you’re looking to park, it may impact you depending on which lot you park in.
