Police release identity of potentially armed suspect who escaped from officers

MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WSMV) - UPDATE: Mt. Juliet police are searching for a potentially armed Nashville man who escaped from officers during a traffic stop Monday night.

Police said 36-year-old Justin Deshane Howard has been identified as the man wanted after Monday night’s search. Howard is wanted on drug possession and evading arrest charges.

“A passenger with Howard stated he was armed with a handgun. He is 5′6″, around 145 lbs, and is believed to be in the Nashville area,” MJPD said.

EARLIER: Officers are looking for a suspect who may be armed after he fled on foot and changed his clothing late Monday night in Mt. Juliet.

According to the Mt. Juliet Police Department, a 36-year-old man wearing a white long-sleeved shirt ran away from officers on Mt. Juliet Road near Providence Parkway around 10:30 p.m. on Monday. They searched the area along Mt. Juliet Road, including around Starbucks and Publix, then discovered he was no longer wearing the shirt.

At roughly 12:25 a.m., the MJPD said the suspect was likely no longer in the area but had identified him and warrants for his arrest were in the works.
