MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WTMJ) — Wisconsin officials have released body camera footage showing the aftermath of a crash in downtown Milwaukee.

The images show the dramatic rescue of an FBI agent whose SUV was hanging over the edge of an interstate overpass.

The FBI agent was on her way to work during rush-hour traffic.

She was rescued from the I-794 overpass after a frightening crash left her SUV’s passenger-side wheels hanging over a retaining wall.

The driver of another car who caused the crash told deputies he was trying to avoid a driver who slammed on the brakes in front of him.

“They were starting to lock. I turned into this lane because I thought, ‘I’m going to hit them,’ and I didn’t see, but I thought, ‘There’s a chance no one’s here,’ and it was a guarantee I was going to rear end someone pretty hard, so I turned into this lane,” the driver said.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said the driver swerved into the FBI agent’s SUV, leading to a citation.

Paramedics and deputies were heard talking in the video about how close the agent came to falling over the edge, raising concerns about snow built up by plowing crews, creating a ramp along the retaining wall.

The Milwaukee County Department of Transportation is responsible for plowing the overpass.

A spokesperson said, “There is no evidence to suggest that snow accumulation either on the roadway or parapet walls contributed to the accident.”

The sheriff’s office said the FBI agent declined medical attention at the scene. The other driver was also not hurt.
