MOORE COUNTY, Texas (KFDA/Gray News) - A Texas woman will spend five years in prison for assaulting a Dumas Police Department sergeant.

A Moore County jury found Cassandra Leann Casucci guilty of assaulting a peace officer.

According to the 69th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, the charge stems from a disturbance call back on Jan. 24.

Officers said they responded that day to a reported disturbance at a store’s parking lot. A person at the store had previous dealings with Casucci and said they were scared of the woman, who was there again.

When the officers arrived, they made contact with Casucci, who was accompanied by her two children, and asked for her identification. But they reported that she was very uncooperative.

Officers reported smelling a marijuana odor coming from her car and tried to detain her. However, authorities said Casucci became aggressive.

She ended up being taken to the ground, and she attempted to hit an officer and kick him in the head, the department said.

The officer said Casucci told him, “Catch me on the streets without that badge,” and that he’d “be eating dirt soon.”

At trial, Casucci testified that what happened was unintentional.
