No threat found after reports of shots fired on University of Tennessee at Chattanooga campus

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Gray News) - A lockdown has been lifted a the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga after police investigated reports of shots fired and found no threat.

The university sent an “All Clear” alert at about 1:55 p.m. (ET). The campus had been placed on lockdown about an hour earlier because of reports of a possible active shooter at the University Center or the university’s library.

In the “All Clear” alert, the university reported that police had found no evidence of a threat during their search of campus. Chattanooga police also reported they had no victims.

Along with the university campus, all City of Chattanooga buildings were also placed on lockdown, according to the Chattanooga Police Department. The lockdown has since been lifted on city buildings and all facilities will return to normal operations.

The university canceled classes for the rest of the day and all students and non-essential employees may leave campus.

This week marks the first week of classes at the university.
