TAUNTON, Mass. (CNN) - A Massachusetts man charged with murdering his pregnant 18-year-old girlfriend is being held without bail.

Twenty-two-year-old Gregory Groom entered a not guilty plea at his arraignment on Wednesday.

Groom was arrested Tuesday at around the same time a body believed to be Kylee Monteiro was found during a search of his Rehoboth-area property.

Prosecutors say Groom reported Monteiro missing on Aug. 8; that was two days after Monteiro reportedly told Groom she was carrying his child.

Prosecutors say, at one point, Monteiro sent a text to her sister that said, in part, “If I die, it was Greg.”

Bail was denied for the Massachusetts man charged with murdering his pregnant girlfriend.

The original charges against Groom, including aggravated assault and battery on a pregnant person, were upgraded later to murder.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for next month.
