MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - An investigation is underway into what caused a fire at a vacant home in Rutherford County, according to the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department.

MCFR said they fought a fire at a home on Medford Campbell Boulevard Wednesday afternoon. Traffic was also temporarily blocked as crews worked the fire.

When they arrived on scene, firefighters found a heavy fire presence in the attic. As crews worked to put the fire out, they were forced back after part of the roof collapsed.

Additionally, firefighters faced more challenges after powerlines fell across the fire truck that arrived on scene.

After firefighters were able to control a majority of the fire, crews were able to confirm that the home was empty.

MFRD said the home was vacant and being renovated.

The Murfreesboro Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
