Nashville high school launching student-led food truck

McGavock High School unveils Metro School’s first student-designed and operated food truck on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Intuit, the global financial technology platform behind TurboTax, QuickBooks, Credit Karma, and Mailchimp, is partnering with McGavock High School to launch a fully operational, student-run food truck. This initiative will provide Career and Technical Education (CTE) students with hands-on experience in technical, financial, and entrepreneurial skills essential for running a successful business. The food truck, equipped with a commercial-grade kitchen, will serve as a dynamic learning tool for students in McGavock’s Academy of Hospitality and Finance. Beyond culinary arts and business, students in other academies will also engage in the project contributing to graphic design, marketing, and automotive maintenance. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - High school students in Nashville are getting the opportunity to gain hands-on experience operating a small business.

Students at McGavock High will be operating Raider Bites, the school’s new student-led food truck.

The food truck, unveiled on Wednesday, was provided through a partnership with Intuit. It’s equipped with a commercial-grade kitchen, the truck will support Career and Technical Education students as they develop the skills needed to run a business.

“The Intuit food truck program is more than just a vehicle; it’s a mobile classroom designed to equip students with real-world skills that translate directly into future careers and business ownership,” said Dave Zasada, Vice President at Intuit. “By integrating financial literacy and entrepreneurship education into hands-on experiences, we are preparing students for success beyond high school.”
