Vanderbilt earns comeback win over Missouri in overtime
The Commodores had momentum on their side, and kept their foot on the gas in the extra period.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Vanderbilt men’s basketball team notched another upset win at Memorial Gymnasium this season, knocking off the 14th-ranked Missouri Tigers 97-93 in overtime.
The Commodores were paced by Chris Mañon who finished with a season-high 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds. The transfer for Cornell did the majority of the heavy lifting for Vanderbilt in the first half, scoring 12 points in the first half to keep his team within striking distance at halftime.
Vanderbilt started chipping away at the nine-point deficit in the second half. Tyler Nickel started to heat up, connecting from three-point range a few times. His biggest shot came from behind the arc in the final seconds of regulation to tie the game at 81 and force overtime.
The Commodores had momentum on their side, and kept their foot on the gas in the extra period. AJ Hoggard spearheaded the offense in overtime to guide Vanderbilt to a comeback win to improve their record at home to 14-2. Mark Byington’s squad has now won three straight games, including two against ranked opponents (Texas A&M and Missouri).
Vanderbilt will host Arkansas Tuesday at 9 p.m. before they finish the regular season on Saturday visiting Georgia.
