Dozens protest Trump administration in Nashville
The “Not my President” demonstration took place outside the Tennessee Capitol on Monday.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A large group organized outside the Tennessee Capitol on Monday to voice their opposition to the recent actions of President Donald Trump.
The protest in Nashville was similar to others held across the country on Presidents Day, in what the organizers dubbed, “Not My President Day.”
Dozens of people voiced their anger at the 47th president for a wide range of reasons, including enforcing the country’s immigration laws, renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” removing diversity practices in the workplace and military, and the creation of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), spearheaded by tech billionaire Elon Musk.
One woman said she was there to show her concern.
“It’s been a long year, with the presidential election, and then now, we’re seeing what’s coming out of that,” Jennifer Brinkman said. “It’s been a long year.
Several participants spoke through a megaphone, while others simply showed up with homemade signs, many of which called out Musk and the dissection of several federal agencies.
President Trump campaigned on the issue of wasteful government spending and the insurmountable national deficit that continues to balloon out of control. Trump announced in early February that Musk and his team had already discovered more than $1 billion in unnecessary spending at USAID.
Speaking through his White House Deputy Press Secretary, Anna Kelly, Trump aims to identify any “wasteful spending that does not align with the America First agenda while curbing Chinese influence abroad.”
The crowd’s ire was not entirely directed at President Trump, however, as many were vocal about their dissatisfaction with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, and other Republicans in the legislature.
