Four teenagers involved in street racing arrested in Nashville for carjackings, gun theft
The arrests were made during two separate investigations on Friday night.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Metro Nashville Police Department announced the arrests of four teenagers at separate street racing “meetups” on Friday night in Nashville after investigations into a carjacking and reckless behavior with firearms.
The first investigation was launched after an Infinity Q50 was carjacked at gunpoint in the 200 block of Davenport Drive. The car had a tracking device attached to it, enabling a helicopter crew to track the sedan to a street racing group in the area of McGavock Pike in Donelson on Friday night.
Units coordinated a stop at Lebanon Pike and Central Pike, and two teenagers were arrested: 17-year-old Josiah De La Rosa and 19-year-old Omar El Hasan.
De La Rosa is charged with carjacking and felony gun possession, while Hasan faces carjacking, felony gun possession, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges. Detectives seized a Springfield pistol believed to be used in the carjacking.
The second pair of arrests were made in South Nashville, also on Friday night.
Detectives were looking for a 17-year-old boy after being made aware of online posts featuring him with a pistol and a white Dodge Challenger. They found him with the Challenger at a gathering of street racers and a pistol could be seen in his waistband, according to MNPD’s report.
The boy and another 17-year-old began firing shots from the window of the car and an MNPD helicopter crew tracked them to Antioch Pike and Richards Road where ground units conducted a stop. Both teenagers were arrested and their guns were seized.
Detectives later learned one of the guns, an AR-style pistol, was stolen from a gun store in Smyrna.
Both 17-year-olds were charged in Juvenile Court with felony reckless endangerment and gun theft.
