Coldest blast of winter air moves in early next week
Dangerous Arctic air could stay in place for several days.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - January is the coldest month on average for the Midstate and we’re about to see much below-average temperatures take over early next week.
The Climate Prediction Center (CPC) monitors trends and patterns for temperatures and precipitation and has highlighted a significant portion of the United States for much below-normal temperatures in the six to 10-day time frame.
A strong Arctic cold front will arrive overnight Saturday into early Sunday. Rain is expected ahead of the front, but behind it, bitter-cold Arctic air moves in; likely the coldest air of the Winter season.
Overnight lows, for several days, could be in the teens and single digits. Additionally, highs could be in the teens and 20s. The exact temperatures will become clearer once we get to the end of the week.
Dangerous wind chills are something that will become possible during that arctic stretch. We’ll keep you updated on the dangerous Arctic conditions throughout the week.
