NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A man is facing charges in connection to a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a pedestrian in East Nashville on Monday morning, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD).

MNPD reports that 54-year-old Michael D. Williams is charged with vehicular assault by recklessness, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, and driving on a revoked license.

Williams is accused of being the driver involved in the 9:30 a.m. hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian in the 1500 block of Porter Road. MNPD reports that he was turning left onto Porter Road from Berkshire Place Apartments in a Nissan Armada when he lost control, and rotated 180 degrees, causing the SUV to jump the sidewalk where the pedestrian was hit and thrown into the roadway.

Police report that the victim, a 54-year-old Nashville man, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries.

“Home surveillance video from a nearby residence showed Williams accelerating to the point of losing control prior to the crash,” MNPD said. “The roadway was wet at the time of the collision.”

A witness followed Williams to a home on Riverside Drive where he was later taken into custody. He’s being held on a $35,000 bond.
