NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Friends and family say Edin Delacruz-Reyes was at a mechanic in Madison with friends to pick up his car on Saturday night. That’s when witnesses say he started talking to another man who pulled out a gun and shot him twice, killing him.

On Tuesday afternoon police arrested 29-year-old Juan Ramirez-Guerra for allegedly shooting and killing him. Ramirez-Guerra faces a charge of criminal homicide.

TRANSLATED “We want justice because whoever did this shouldn’t be in the streets laughing about what he did,” one of Delacruz-Reyes’ friends said.

Delacruz-Reyes moved to Nashville five years ago hoping to support his wife and 6-year-old daughter who are back in Guatemala. He worked in construction alongside his brother Hermelindo.

The two were attached at the hip, spending most of their time together.

TRANSLATED “I’ll remember him my whole life, we were always together. We used to go out fishing, it was so beautiful and we’ll never be able to do that again,” Hermelindo said.

Today the family is raising money to send his body back to Guatemala to be with his mother and father.

TRANSLATED “That’s not how we want as a mom want to see a child - he should be giving her a hug but instead, he’s coming back in a box,” his friend said.

Edin’s brother says he planned to move back and be reunited with his family next month.

TRANSLATED “I was going to go back and he said no brother wait for me so we can go together,” Hermelindo said.
