Three arrested, more than 100 pounds of marijuana seized at BNA
The trio consented to a search which produced 113 pounds of marijuana in vacuum sealed bags.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Three people were arrested and over 100 pounds of marijuana were seized at Nashville International Airport (BNA) on Thursday.
According to the arrest affidavit, 30-year-old Marquice Lester, of Nashville, 20-year-old Tamia Sims-Irby, of South Carolina, and 20-year-old Kamery Perkins, of Mississippi, were arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit possession with intent of a controlled substance.
The affidavit said K-9 Peggy was deployed on multiple runs of luggage from flight #3279 from Sacramento, California as the area is “known to be a distribution source city for narcotics” due to prior seizures at BNA. During a run, Peggy zeroed in on four pieces of luggage with tags with the names, Sims-Irby and Perkins.
Officers dressed in plain clothes observed as Perkin, Sims-Irby, and Lester retrieved the bags then stopped them and identified themselves as law enforcement, according to the affidavit.
The officers reported the trio gave consent to a search that produced 113 pounds of marijuana in vacuum-sealed bags.
Interviews with the suspects revealed they had traveled to Sacramento to obtain “a bulk quantity of narcotics for resale and conspired to transport those narcotics into Tennessee,” according to the affidavit.
