NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A felon is accused in one of the recent deadly shootings in the Napier community, but Metro Nashville police said he’s claiming self-defense.
Police said 45-year-old Calvin W. Kinzer is responsible for the deadly shooting of Christopher Sayne Brooks, 32, of Nashville, near the intersection of Lewis and Winfrey Streets on Sunday afternoon. Kinzer is a felon who’s wanted by the State of Tennessee for parole violation. Police identified Brooks on May 30 through his fingerprints.

He was arrested on Tuesday at a Lebanon Pike convenience market. Police said he was carrying a firearm at the time of his arrest and officers found another in his car.
Kinzer admitted to officers he shot Brooks, however, he said it was in defense of himself and others as the man shot first, MNPD said. The victim’s gun was recovered Sunday afternoon, police added.
Kinzer is facing charges of parole violation and gun possession by a convicted felon.
“The fatal shooting investigation will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office upon its conclusion,” police said.
