Murfreesboro mother indicted in 4-week-old son’s death

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) - A mother in Murfreesboro was indicted and faces murder and abuse charges in connection to the death of her four-week-old son.

Jalani Patton, 25, was indicted on felony first-degree murder and aggravated child abuse charges by a Rutherford County Grand Jury and she was arrested on Wednesday, May 16.

The death investigation began on April 22, 2023, after officers were called to the Ashwood Cove Apartments on North Tennessee Boulevard in response to an unresponsive infant.

Patton allegedly claimed the baby fell off the bed and hit his head. The baby later died at the hospital.

After the medical examiner performed an autopsy, they determined the cause of death was from blunt force head trauma.

Patton is being held in the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center on a $250,000 bond. She is set to appear in court on June 25 in the Rutherford County Circuit Court.
