‘Larger than life’: Nashville family keeps man’s legacy alive six years after unsolved murder
Police said three masked men entered the home and began shooting.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Nashville family’s wait for justice reached six years this week as they desperately hope for answers in their loved one’s 2018 murder.
Nathan McDade was shot on the night of Jan. 6 at a home on Briarwood Drive. The Metro Nashville Police Department said McDade was visiting some friends when three masked men entered the home and began shooting.
McDade was hit by the gunfire and later died.
“It was devastating, I think, in a billion different ways,” Mallory McDade, Nathan’s sister, said. “Not only just losing him, but also not having an answer to why.”
McDade, who was 36, was an avid outdoorsman. His bold and adventurous spirit is reflected in pictures of him whitewater rafting and standing on mountaintops. He was also a beloved father, uncle and son.
“He was always just larger than life,” his sister said. “I was always very proud of him and everything he accomplished, and just the attitude he had about living life. He loved living and he was a really good uncle to my two kids.”
Police urge anyone with information about McDade’s murder to contact MNPD’s Cold Case Unit at 615-862-7329 or Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $5,000.
“Just to give us that closure and relief, and I feel like someone who had as big of an impact as he did, someone deserves to be held accountable for what they took from everyone who loved him,” Mallory said. “I think it would help my parents sleep at night, and I think it would help me and my kids have some kind of sense that the world is just and fair.”
