NWS confirms several tornados across the mid-state

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The National Weather Service said that tornados touched down in Marshall, Bedford and Rutherford Counties.

The first tornado touched down northwest in Chapel Hill and produced EF1 damage in Marshall. It then clipped the northwest corner of Bedford before moving into Rutherford County where a house had gotten the upper-end of EF-1 damage. The tornado lifted near Mount Pleasant Road.

The second tornado touched down east of Highway 231 and west of Interstate 24 in Rutherford County.

The tornado produced EF0 damage until it reached Highway 70 south where it produced EF-1 tree and outbuilding damage.

The heaviest damage was in Readyville where winds reached up to 130 mph which is an EF2. Some EF1 damage was noted northeast of Readyville. The tornado lifted before reaching Hwy 53.

NWS said they will send out a public information statement with the exact path length and width overnight.

Tornado damage in Wayne and Lewis counties was likely at the high end of EF-2 damage.

The National Weather Service said that the tornado estimated peak wind speeds reached 130 mph in the Leatherwood community in Wayne County. There was structural and tree damage there.

The Memphis office of the National Weather Service said Sunday the tornadoes that touched down in Wynne, Arkansas, in eastern Arkansas, Covington, Tennessee, and McNairy County, Tennessee, were rated EF-3. The tornado that struck McNairy County continued through Hardin County into Wayne County.

NWS also found lots of tree damage in Wayne and Lewis counties with some structural damage in areas along the 38-mile path.

It was determined the tornado lifted in eastern Lewis County before entering Maury County. There was no tornado damage found in Maury County.

NWS said more information will be finalized and released in the coming days.
