Woman with AK-47 in San Francisco

San Francisco police said a vehicle seen in a July 11 photo showing a woman leaning out of a car holding an AK-47 was seized Wednesday.

SAN FRANCISCO (Meredith) -- The San Francisco Police Department posted a photo on Twitter of a woman hanging out of a passenger window of a Cadillac while holding an AK-47. The photo was taken on July 11.

“During an illegal exhibition of speed event at Barneveld & McKinnon, a passenger leaned out of a Cadi holding an AK47,” the department’s traffic safety unit said in the tweet, shared with photos.

Police said the car was tracked down and seized Wednesday. They did not say whether the woman seen in the photo or anyone else was arrested, or whether any shots were fired.

The incident came after a recent increase in shootings and assaults in the first six months of the year, according to police. According to Yahoo News, San Francisco reported 119 fatal and not-fatal shootings this year, compared to 58 in the first half of 2020.
