PLEASANT VIEW, TN (WSMV) - A local wrestling team is frustrated after they say they raised money for new mats bought them from a company never to receive the mats.
Members of the Sycamore High Wrestling team worked hard to raise the money to purchase new mats for the team.
"Last year, we were just really hype. We saw like any moving vehicle that came by. We were like, 'Hey, is that the mat? Is it there yet??' And then, just nothing. It sucks," sophomore Faisao Al-Ipyden said.
"Sixteen months later, all they've gotten is excuses,' Al-Ipyden's mother Christie Abbott said.
That's right. The team has been waiting for over a year to get the mats from Tiffin Mats Inc., a company based out of Elkton, Maryland.
“So, they raised the money, a little over $7,000.00. They require you to pay the money in full. They did that last July 2019. The canceled check went through in August. It’s now December 1 and we still don’t have the mat," Hamblin said.
Jennifer Hamblin, the wife of the head coach, says the whole ordeal has been a headache.
"They won't return the money. Said they can't. The check would bounce. So, from all the research we've found on this company. Unfortunately, we're not the only ones who have this story," Hamblin said.
News 4 reached out to the Maryland AG's office. A spokesperson says they have received 18 complaints against Tiffin Mats over the last 3 years. 5 of them were in the last year. And on the Better Business Bureau website for Maryland, the company has an F rating. The company received 55 complaints in the last 3 years, 19 complaints in the 12 months.
For over a week, News 4 tried calling and emailing the company multiple times but is still waiting for a response.
"Why would you want to take our money! We're a bunch of high schoolers. If you're gonna take from somebody, don't take from a small school," Al-Ipyden said.
To donate to the team, they have setup a GoFundMe. To donate, click here.
