Officials with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed Saturday that a British man has been charged on suspicion of posting a threat on Facebook this week that caused several hundred students in Warren County to stay home from school.

According to the TBI, Reece Elliott, 24, was accused of making the anonymous post Wednesday that he planned to "kill hopefully at least 200" students, according to a statement from police in Northumbria, England.

Elliott appeared before a judge early Saturday, and is charged with threats to kill towards the residents of Warren County, TN. The offense falls under the Communications Act of 2003.

"There is nothing to suggest he posed any physical threat to any schools, either (in England) or in America," Northumbria police said.

Elliott was detained at the South Shields Police Station and will be questioned by detectives, according to British news agency Sky News Tyne and Wear.

The Middle Tennessee school district increased security at its schools Thursday as the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Department of Homeland Security joined in working to track down who was responsible for the threat.

School officials said they fielded hundreds of calls from concerned parents - many of whom opted to keep their children home from school as a precaution.

More than 2,900 students did not attend classes Thursday, which is 43 percent of the county's students, according to Director of Warren County Schools Bobby Cox.

Cox said in addition to more police at the schools, all of the exterior doors were locked and any visitors to the schools were personally escorted inside.

There was also an increased police presence at all of the schools Friday.

Elliott was scheduled for another court date on Feb. 13, according to Sky News.
