Two brothers were shot in the Kroger parking lot on East Thompson Lane on Thursday afternoon.

Police said Marquel People, 22, and DeMarko Peoples, 25, were taken to Southern Hills Medical Center with non-critical gunshot wounds after being shot in the parking lot just after 1 p.m.

Witnesses reported that a person(s) in a dark colored pickup truck pulled up and open fire on Marquel Peoples’ car. The truck then drove off as persons in the car shot back.

“I was over there near the stop sign when I heard boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, and I thought ‘Oh my gosh, fireworks.’ No, then I saw a great big huge green truck with gunsmoke coming out the window and I thought, ‘Oh my gosh, they are having a shootout in the parking lot,’” a witness told News4.

The persons in the car then got into a white sedan and left the scene. A short time later Marquel and DeMarko Peoples were dropped off at the hospital.

Police said a gun and a baggie containing a white powder were found in the car the Peoples abandoned in the parking lot.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing.
