Officials are investigating after a gun was fired inside a bathroom at Waynesboro Elementary School in Wayne County.

Police said a student brought the gun to school and accidentally discharged the weapon on Thursday morning.

No one was injured during the incident, according to school officials.

The school underwent lockdown procedures, and a message was sent out to parents.

The school has a zero-tolerance policy about weapons, which means the student is currently expelled. The school board can alter the punishment, if they choose to do so, during a hearing.
