Police say they have arrested the man accused of snatching a 70-year-old woman's purse and causing her to fall while she was leaving Bible study last week.

The violent robbery happened at the Lebanon Road Church of Christ on Lebanon Pike on May 1.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, Gilbert D. Ostring drove up to the woman and asked her if there were any shelters nearby. That's when he allegedly reached out of his window, grabbed the woman's purse and yanked it from her.

The woman broke several bones in her hand and injured her face when she fell to the pavement.

The Metro Nashville Police Department released surveillance video of the crime.

Ostring, 48, was arrested in Scottsboro, AL, around 7 p.m. Wednesday on charges of vehicle burglary and theft. He will return to Nashville after facing the charges in Alabama.

Ostring has previously been arrested several times in both Davidson and Williamson counties. Some of his prior convictions include reckless aggravated assault, theft, forgery and identity theft. He was released from prison in June 2017.
